App economy
In this video tutorial, I decided to analyze a mobile apps' marketing, and describe and suggest some marketing tips that can be useful to launch an application on to the market.
After a short introduction about the app economy, which represents the social and economic context in that we live, I compared the level of device fragmentation between two types of operating systems: IOS and Android.
There is not one right choice, each system has its pros and cons. But for sure, it is clear that Microsoft is doomed to fail with its new Windows Mobile Phone as the statistics of its handset sales show.
App or browser?
Videogame is the most downloaded category and the first type of app which has used a strong stickiness system. Games try continuously to be stuck to users with push notifications, reminders and other clever tricks. That's why we spend all our time on mobile apps. It means most people surf the internet via applications and not via browser.
App life cycles
In order to choose the best marketing strategy for your app, you have to also know its life cycle. Mainly, there are four types of life cycles:
Long life;
Campaign;
Seasonal;
Trend & Mode.
Depending on the specific life cycle of your app, you would have more or less costs, different framework approaches and so on.
Revenue models
Finally, I have described the most common revenue models:
In app purchase;
Pay to unlock;
Pay per download;
Mix model;
Advertising;
Sponsorship;
Premium;
Affiliation program;
Free/no model.
