Having lunch with Kratos: the God of War shares his diet

Updated: Sep 27, 2018

Jedidiah Weller had only three months to get in shape to cosplay as Kratos, form God of War, at New York Comic Con.

The Kratos challenge expects a hard workout and strict diet. Last time, Jedi showed me one of his typical training sessions and if you missed the article, click here to catch it up.

This time, we talked about his nutrition and diet best practices to reach his goal of getting in character.

Mainly meat and light food

The hard part of a diet is to be consistent in time and avoid cheating. Determination is the important factor which keeps your mind focused on the final objective.

In the morning, it’s a good practice to eat some proteins to recharge muscles after the long hours passed to sleep without eating. Jedi usually eats eggs for breakfast and mixes proteins with carbs for lunch.

So meat and carbs at noon. A light source of carbs can be rice, better if whole rice, which can be dressed with vegetables or cheese or something healthy and essential that allows you to have a wide choice of flavors for the week.

He almost uses the same food categories for dinner, but another type of meat and vegetables.

To build up muscles, you want your metabolism to keep going, that’s why snacks are important. Eating dry fruit is a good way to snack, mainly nuts, cashews, pistachios and peanuts.

The best meat to eat is chicken breast for the protein quality and cheap price, but also turkey breast is quite good too.

If I could add something personal, and this is an Italian tip that other countries like the U.S. don’t know, I would say the best meat ever is air-cured beef (bresaola in Italian), because of its protein/fats ratio and protein quality. Of course, bresaola will pump up your muscles, but make your wallet cry.

Fish is important too, as well as red meat. So you can interchange them during your weekly schedule. To save money without ignoring the quality, salmon and tuna can represent a good trade off.

In the end, when dieting, you have to try avoid pasta, bread and all of those kind of “heavy” carbs sources. Don’t forget alcohol, junk food and sweets.

Someone could have something to say about pasta and bread, but in this case, Jedi is trying not only to build up his body, but also to shape his muscles. That’s why it’s better to pick something else.

WHAT DO YOU THINK

Do you have any suggestions on the perfect nutrition to become Kratos, the God of War?
