Pasquale De Rosa is back for Chick’n’Mango with his gems about powerlifting. In the four following videos, he explains the importance of explosiveness and perception of the effort in bodybuilding. He also shares some tips about squat and the use of gloves.
The previous episode
Do you remember Pasquale De Rosa? I followed him during a typical powerlifting workout and discovered what a real powerlifter's training session should be like. If you missed the previous shot, you can watch it now clicking here.
If you still believe that in powerlifting the quantity is better than the quality, this video is for you: the Italian champion will make you change your mind.
The explosiveness is the bulk of powerlifting
Your muscles suffer, blood flows quick in your veins and when you raise your head, you see those 200 kilos on your shoulders. That’s the moment of the Bang!
The effectiveness of the exercise is closely related to the explosiveness you unleash during the contraction phase. Powerlifting is a work of nerves and the more powerful their impulse is, the more effective is the workout.
Ditch the gloves
Have you ever asked yourself why powerlifters never use gloves? The official answer is that gloves are not allowed during competitions by the Powerlifting Federation. But the truth is that gloves are for dolls.
Magnesium and hard skin are the secrets of a perfect grab. It’s when your bare hands touch the barbell's iron that you feel the weights become alive.
Squats are hard
If you are not won out at the end of every rep, it means you are not done. Sometimes we see people calling themselves “bodybuilders” who lift more weights with the chest than with the legs.
It’s well known that leg muscles are bigger than chest ones, so it’s clear if you lift a less weight with your legs, you are not working properly. The human mind is responsible for this trick: we believe we can’t do it and build up limits. But to make a difference, we have to overcome difficulties and set higher objectives.
The perception of the effort in bodybuilding
Pasquale believes, when you practice sport, your mind may play bad tricks. That’s why one of the best characteristics of a powerlifter is to focus on his or her own aim.
It often happens that you think you are lifting a heavy weight, but it’s not really true. That’s why you have to work around the mind, set higher goals and overcome the perception of the effort. Only yourself can help you to find the necessary motivation to succeed.
If you understand the difference between the real effort and its perception, you will be able to understand that 3 sets are more effective than 10. You have just to load the right weight.
