There are many strategies to develop an idea, but not all of them are effective. For example you could be stuck during the creative process or market the product too late. Design thinking helps to avoid these possible problems.
I interviewed Jedediah Weller, alias Jedi, and David Machov in order to find out more on this topic.
About WebJunto
WebJunto is a design and technology company that provides web and app solutions for both entrepreneurs and enterprises. They are a young team specializing in user experience design and mobile app development.
They embrace their collective knowledge in design thinking, psychology, and software engineering to find creative solutions for real-world problems.
Fast, fast, fast…but not too fast
Once you have an idea, the next step is to prep towards the MVP (Minimum Viable Product). The aim is to launch the product or service into the market with only its core features. In brief, the MVP is the basement of the Lean start-up methodology and allows you to validate or invalidate a product as soon as possible through a low cost process.
Nevertheless, Jedi, the co-founder and head of technology of WebJunto, says «Wait a minute!». It’s true you have to reach the MVP as fast as you can, but you shouldn't overlook the process behind it.
Start-ups find solutions
Jedi repeats his mantra for all entrepreneurs to follow, «The goal of a start-up is to find a solution». The Lean start-up methodology expects you to start to interact with clients and the market during the earlier stages of your idea.
You need continuous feedback and try to build as small as you can. You need something basic and effective, that customers can use and understand easily.
The last key-point of design thinking is focusing on design. Why are our users going to use the application, what problems is it solving and so on. Design and user experience are the basic fundamentals to focus on before starting to build your product or service.
The javelin board
A scheme that helps to make a brief assessment of your project is the javelin board. It allows you to summarize and gather all your main strategy key points. After having identified a problem and customer segment, you can fill out this board to have a quick overview of your work and start its validation process.
Inside design
The experience of David, a designer and brand strategist of WebJunto, tells us that you can solve design problems with the same tools. He is very into Sketch and Marvel App, two softwares that support your work in creating a new product.
Sketch allows you to do wireframe and final mockups focused on user experience design, while Marvel App helps you to prototype final mockups.
