Why a company should be based in a co-working space

I’m here again with Marco Bonifaccino, the CEO of B Solutions, to understand why a company or start-up should choose to invest in a co-working space as opposed to a traditional office. In a previous article (which you can find by clicking here) Marco brought us to the complicated path of starting a business in the U.S. Now he has explained why he chose a co-working space as an office and how it has allowed him to save lots of money.

Keep the wallet in your pocket

Co-working spaces are chosen by very different companies, but are usually preferred by start-ups, because of their low budget, and this solution allows for big savings.

Sharing costs is not the only reason to choose a co-working space, because also big companies, such as WordPress, decided to embrace this setting. For example, the business model of WordPress doesn’t need a big office and actually its employees are working remotely or in co-working spaces all around the world. It allows the company a high level of flexibility and lets employees stay in their home countries. Doing so, WordPress is free from a heavy structure of costs and bureaucracy.

Besides, it doesn’t matter if you rent only a workstation or many, because you usually rent as much space as you want (of course, depending on the overall size of the co-working building).

Meet new people and work together

Another important reason is the opportunity of networking. In a co-working space you are able to stay close to employees of different companies and extend your connections, maybe by starting new partnerships.

Many times it happens that your working neighbor had passed through your same difficulties to start his/her business. So, despite differences, a co-working space is also an environment where you can find similarities and that’s why it enhances a virtuous loop of mutual aid.

Different types of co-working spaces

The world of co-working space is really wide. Each one has its own features and advantages, so I suggest to ask many quotations before making a final decision.

They are different also according to the activities you can do inside. For example, here in the U.S., WeWork is very popular, a co-working space typically designed for companies which offer a service or something that doesn’t need “to put hands on”. In other words it represents a more classic style of office.

Instead, there are co-working spaces as NextFab, which offer you specific equipments, 3D printers and softwares to work. NextFab is literally a workshop, so you go there to put your hands on and build something. In brief, it’s a working space for makers.
